Six: La Fin De La Route

After all these weeks of observing my younger sister, I have come to two conclusions. The first conclusion is that my little sister does not have a regular schedule. When I first started observing her, I thought she had a schedule. I thought it went like this:
- Wake up and get ready for school
- Eat breakfast and leave to school
- Come home from school and eat
- Do homework and study on the computer
- Shower
- Watch tv and chill out
- Sleep
- Repeat!
As it turns out, her schedule is much more complicated than that! I do not know how she has the time to accomplish a lot of things in one day! I stress out each and everyday because I do not have enough time! Through out the day, Oriana is doing things such as painting her nails, doing homework, reading for her own entertainment, watching tv, drawing, and even weird things like randomly dancing or talking to herself and her toys. I barely have enough time to do homework and she is over here saving the world in one day! It's crazy.

Observing her while she does all these activities makes me realize how much I've grown and are growing. When I was little, I would have a lot of time for all that and more! Now I rarely go out because I am stuck at home, doing homework and worrying about getting a decent GPA at the end of each semester. I remember my freshman IB Biology teacher, Mr. Swigart, once said, "Choose two: Sleep, School, Social Life." Well of course I have to choose sleep and school! They are most important right now and that is okay because it will all be worth it at the end. According to Varisty Tutors, there is no reason on why I shouldn't have a social life, the trick is just to balance them out. I'm not sure if that will be easy at all. I just hope my little sister is enjoying the time she has right now, because for a third grader, she has it very easy, and she will soon come to realize that, as she advances.

The other conclusion I have come up with is that my sister will get anything that she desires, even by crying for it. Another thing is that if you do not expect to live up to the promises you are making to her, do not even promise her anything because she will hunt you down until you fulfill the promise you made. She will remind you everyday and trust me, it gets annoying. If you do not get her what you promised her by a certain deadline, she will keep adding more things for you to give to her. I certainly do not shit money so how does she expect me to buy her all the things she wants? I have not given her about four things I have promised her and I regret even promising her anything at all.

These past weeks of observing her made me think quite a bit. At the beginning of this observation, I said to myself that I would found out what she actually does and interact with her instead of being on my phone all day. I did somewhat complete that and I have noticed that my sister is quite a funny creature. The reason I say creature is because she is very odd at times and I do not know how I am related to her. But I still love her. Even though this is the end of my journey, I hope to keep observing her once in a while to see what is new in her life. She is my sister so that definitely says a lot about there being new, interesting, and disturbing things to come!

Cinq: Nicknames

Nicknames are always fun right? They come in handy if you cannot pronounce a person's name, if it is too long or simply because it reveals memories. I have always wanted a nickname. You know, a nickname that everyone knew me by. But sadly, my name is simply Ana. You cannot get such a fascinating nickname from that short 3 letter name. There is always 'Ana Banana' but that does not sound very original, now does it?

I wonder where and how nicknames originated! Who suddenly woke up one day and decided, "I'm going to call my friend Samantha, 'Sammy' for short?" I find that to be very interesting. I mean some nicknames are very obvious to why someone would've come up with that nickname but how is someone named Richard nicknamed 'Dick?' I looked it up because I became very curious and according to mentalfloss.com, Dick is a nickname for Richard because during the middle ages, nicknames were just names that rhymed with the original name, to save time. Dick rhymed with Rick (short for Richard) and that is how it came to be. Now that I have read all that, it all makes sense.

Anyways! As you may have noticed, I have titled my blog "Oogie Boogie." Who has stopped to think about what that even means? Well that is what I like to call my little sister, Oriana! I, in fact, got a lot of our family members to call her Oogie Boogie as well! That isn't the only nickname she has, though. I have noticed that Oriana and I are always coming up with many different nicknames. She is also nicknamed, 'Oris' or 'Oogster.'

One of the things Oriana likes to do is sing! She is not very good at it but boy does she sing her heart out. She doesn't care if she has an audience or not, or if she's in the shower or at the store! If a song comes up, she will sing it out loud, even if she doesn't know the lyrics. But she also likes to sing  songs that she makes up from her nicknames! One of the songs goes like, "My name is Oriana! Everyone calls me Oriiiiiis. Ayy Oogie Boogie!" I have not yet a clue on how she made it up but I personally think it is very cute and funny. Somewhat strange as well.

I think everyone should have a nickname because they bring up memories. Everytime I call her "Oris" I think of my childhood house around Christmas time because that was when she was born and I started calling her that. When I call her "Ooogie Boogie" I think of when I would spend my summers in Los Angeles because my cousin and I came up with the nickname, Oogie Boogie, for her. I don't know if it is just me but nicknames are quite lovely.

Quatre: Brat

These past few days my little sister has been acting differently than she normally does. Not just in one way, form, or matter but overall. I tend to touch her face a lot because it is cute and chubby. At first she was okay with it but lately she has been getting annoyed with it. If I try to reach for her face, she immediately slaps it away. She then says to me, "If you touch my face again, I'll touch your face too but even worse!" Trust me when I say this, but for an eight year old, she is violent and she will keep her word. I cannot do anything to her anymore because she will get me back but with even more violence. I have to suck it up because she will do anything in her power to get me in trouble. She will even lie to our mom, if she has to. She is a little devil.

Lately, she has also been acting more bratty. (If that even is a word.) If you do not give her what she wants, she will give you the silent treatment for the rest of the day. On top of that, she will mess with your belongings. Just the other day I did not give her, her wants, and she gave me the silent treatment. When I went back in my room later on that day, my bed was completely destroyed and turned upside down. She will mess up anything she gets her hands on if she feels it is necessary. She will not take no for an answer. I will keep saying no until she learns that she will not get everything she wants in life and that she will have to suck it up.

Trois: Selfie

I'm pretty sure we all know what a selfie is and if you don't know, here is the definition from www.merriam-webster.com:

Selfie: an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks

But how do we all we know what it means? Like who even came up with the term for it? I did some research on how the term originated and I found the answer to be extraordinary and was not something I was expecting. According to several sites, the term came from a young Australian drunk. The young Australian used the term selfie to describe a self-portrait. It so happened to be said around 2002 but barely gained momentum in 2013. Who knows how or why.

My little sister, Oriana, is the one to go to for selfies! She might only be 8 but boy does she have a thing for selfies. Even if she has no social media accounts, (For the purpose of taking selfies but why would she have any accounts anyways?), her day is spent taking selfies, no matter what she is doing. She says that I'm the one who is taking selfies 24/7 but she's crazy. I only take selfies when A.) I look cute or B.) I need a new avi for Twitter. One day, she got all of my mom's sunglasses, more than 20, and took a selfie with each one! When she was done with her selfie spree, she went and took my sunglasses and continued away with the selfies. Yes, she's pretty odd. For this purpose, I thought I'd take a not so normal selfie with her.

As you can see, I don't usually take normal selfies. I always make snapchat faces in my selfies. I noticed that my little sister is not the only youngster who takes selfies. I've noticed that a lot of other little kids have caught on the selfie train. I think it's ridiculous but funny at the same time. The other day I was looking through my photos on my phone (Something I often do when I'm not texting anyone or when Twitter is dry) and I found a selfie my little cousin that she had taken on my phone. I thought it was hilarious because she was doing the "duck lips" and the peace sign to the face. Or as  Kid Cudi once said, "@KidCudi: Hahaha what is this pose u kids do w ur hands on ur face like a peace sign??? What is that?? haha r u smellin ur hands?" Ahh Cudi is a legend but here is the selfie my little cousin took on my phone:

I hope everyone goes home tonight and takes a selfie because you have to admit, they are fun.

Deux

When I get out of the shower, I usually sit around in my towel for about 30 minutes. I am too lazy to change right away. I bet most of you can relate! But no, not my little sister. Once she is done taking her daily evening 10 minute shower, she heads to my room (I have a nice mirror section in my room) and starts dancing. At first, my thoughts were, "What in the world is she doing? There's not even music playing!" But then again I thought that sometimes I randomly dance, regardless if there's music or not. Who said you need music to dance? So, once she is done with her dance recital, she heads back to the bathroom and starts doing her hair. She is about to go to sleep and she's doing her hair all nice? WHY? It's not like she is going to impress anyone at that moment? Unless it's her pillow or blanket, but that would be very strange. But then again it's my little sister... I wouldn't doubt it.

Une

For the next few months, I will be observing my little 8 year old sister, Oriana. She is a mini me, basically. Except she has glasses and way curlier hair than me. It's actually pretty sad that I am 16 and she is 8 and she is just a tad bit shorter than me. I chose to observe her because I am with her 24/7 but I have never put in much thought about what she actually does. I think I may know who she is and what she likes, but I may be wrong. I am prepared to experience weirdly disturbing things that my sister will do.
